Big Auntie Energy…

Left to Right: Amelia Day, (Sam) Marie Gudim, (Sam) (My Grandma) and Doris Lembke (Sam)

I seen a call for artists in my feed today focused on “Indigenous Aunties”. I was thinking a lot about it and what that term means to me and how I could portray that in an art form of some kind. Then as I was driving home, I kid you not, this falls from my visor. Left there from the last time I went to my Grandma’s house after her passing to help her husband sort through her things.

Got me all in my feelings about the ways these three women loved me. The way they loved all of us rez kids in Chiminising. I could swear they coined the phrase, “My girl”. They always had something sweet to say that just sent your confidence through the roof.

A hilarious memory that came to me today as I looked at this, was that I specifically remember each one of these ladies wiping something or another off of my face as a kid with a Kleenex dampened with their spit. If that ain’t the most Auntie sh*t ever….
